The Negresco Hotel bears the name of its founder Henri Negresco (Alexandru Negrescu).

At the age of 13, Henri Negresco leaves Romania for France, he studied in Paris before experiencing a dazzling career in the restaurant industry in Monte-Carlo, London and Nice.

In 1912, he realized his dream. Associated with automobile magnates, he built the Negresco Hotel on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, a palace designed by architect Édouard-Jean Niermans, comprising 450 rooms luxuriously furnished by Paul Daumas. The hotel was inaugurated on the 4th January, 1913 and immediately enjoys a huge success with the international aristocracy.

In 1914, the hotel was requisitioned to become a military hospital. The Second World War is fatal to the activity of the hotel and Henri Negresco finds himself ruined. The hotel was bought in 1920 by a Belgian company and is forgotten. The North and the West parts of the building were converted into residences.

In 1957, Jean-Baptiste Mesnage acquired the hotel and entrusted its management to his daughter Jeanne Augier. She will manage the hotel like a master, restore its image by integrating a unique collection of 6000 relics and artwork. The hotel gets the label “Heritage of the 20th century” in 2001, the status of historical monument in 2003 and the 5th star in 2009. Renovated in 2010, the Negresco Hotel consists of 100 rooms and 25 suites, a starred restaurant “Le Chanteclerc”, a brasserie “La Rotonde” and a piano bar. Since Madame Augier’s death in 2019, the hotel is owned by the Dotation Fund Mesnage – Augier – Negresco.

Throughout its history, the Negresco Hotel received many actors (Gary Cooper, Catherine Deneuve, Richard Burton, Grace Kelly), musicians and singers (Louis Armstrong, Michael Jackson, Elton John, James Brown, Paul McCartney, Montserrat Caballé), artists (Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Jean Cocteau), writers (Hernest Heminguay), politicians (Winston Churchill, Jacques Chirac), business leaders (Walt Disney, Bill Gates) …

The Negresco Hotel, with its immaculate white facade and pink dome, is undoubtedly one of the symbols of the city of Nice.
