The Grand Escurial

2 April 2020

L’Escurial (or Grand Escurial) is one of the emblematic buildings of Nice, in the purest Art Deco style.

Located at the corner of Alphonse Karr and Georges Clemenceau streets, the Grand Escurial was built in 1933 by the architect Léonard Varthaliti, on behalf of the Riviera real estate company.

This building has many apartments, but it is best known for its legendary performance hall, which became a cinema, then a nightclub, before being transformed, recently, into a supermarket.

In 2016, the facade works made it possible to recover the original colors.
