The Building Le Nice

14 February 2020

The residence "Le Nice" was built in 1960 on behalf of the "Le Sylvana" real estate company, by the architect Joseph Thibaut. This one has built many buildings in Nice, including the Coupo Santo just in front of « Le Nice ».

Located at 41 and 43 avenue des Baumettes in Nice, on a plot of 1360sqm, "Le Nice" is a 5-storey building which originally included a total of 44 lots, including 22 apatments. Recently, new lots have been created on the occasion of the transfer of the caretaker's lodge and the privatization of parking lots. Access to the floors is by an elevator which opens directly onto the apartments. Building permit number 698 was deposited on December 12, 1958 and granted on August 27, 1959 by the City of Nice. The Co-ownership Regulations were established on May 18, 1960 by Maitre Jean Latil, notary in Nice, and registered on May 27, 1960.

The property had been acquired by Joseph Reginald de La Font de Savine and his wife, Marie Louise Elisabeth Kerchner, who then brought it (December 8, 1959) to the "Le Sylvana" real estate company. Previously, it belonged to Mrs. Virginie Verzoni, Italian resident living in Mirandolo di Modena; she herself had inherited it from Doctor Salvatore Mallo, widower of Mrs. Luba Kokorev, who had bought the property from Mrs. Emilie Chevillot. For the anecdote, the Ollières Castle was also part of the property until its sale in 1920.

On the pediment of the building, just above the entrance, you can see a mosaic which represents the famous Nice eagle celebrating the 100th anniversary of the attachment of Nice (1860) to France. It is a work by Russian painter and mosaic artist Ivanna Lemaître (born in Saint Petersburg in 1893, died in Nice in 1973). In the building hall which gives access to entrances A and B, you can have a look on a large black & white picture representing the harbour of Nice.
