The Ascension Thursday

13 May 2021

The Ascension Day is a Christian holiday which marks the last meeting of Jesus and his disciples after his resurrection and his rise to heaven.

The word has its origin in the Latin ‘‘ascendere’’ meaning ‘‘rise towards’’. Since the 4th century, the feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ is celebrated 40 days after Easter and always on a Thursday.

In France, the Ascension Day is one of the opportunities to take an extra day off during spring and enjoy a few vacation days.
